Leap!

Happy Leap Day!

Did you know that the Leap Day is not added every four years?

I thought that's how it worked.  I thought a Leap Day was added every four years when the year is divisible by 4. But it turns out when it is a century year, that is a year evenly divisible by 100, so 2100, 2200 and so on; the year must be evenly divisible by 400 to be a Leap Year.

Leap Days were added because the solar year (the time it takes for the earth to make a revolution around the sun) is actually somewhat longer than 365 days so to keep the seasons aligned every so often there needs to be some time added.

  2. Didn't know that. Always thought it was just the divisible by 4 rule. Happy Leap Day!
